Ward Mission/Temple and Family History
U - Unite families for eternity on both sides of the veil
S- Smile and Say “Hi”
- Make a concerted effort to be friendly and show genuine concern for friends, neighbors, acquaintances and strangers (member and non-members alike – especially within our ward boundaries) (Matthew 22:37-40)
- Simplifying definition of ministering
- William Butler Yeats said “There are no strangers here; only friends you haven’t yet met.”
M- Meaningful acts of services
- Look for opportunities to help friends, neighbors, and acquaintances (pray for guidance and listen for the promptings that surely will come)
- This is more than “call me if you ever need anything.” If you see that your neighbor needs help, don’t just offer, go help! If your assigned ministers struggle to visit you or make contact with you, call them and invite them over.
- James 1:22; (“Have I done any good?”, Hymns #223)
I- Invite friends, neighbors and acquaintances to church social activities
- Have planned quarterly activities that can be opportunities for ward members/missionaries to invite others to partake of the love/friendship.
- Plan family gatherings, Quorum/Relief Society, individual, neighbor, etc., that can be tailored to the individual interests.
- Matthew 18:20; D&C 101:22
L- Listen to the Spirit for opportunities bear testimony of gospel truths
- Testimonies do not have to start with “I would like to testify...” and end with “...in the name of...”
- “Be vigilant and spiritually attentive to spontaneously occurring opportunities to bear testimony. . . Such occasions need not be programmed, scheduled, or scripted. . . the less regimented (the) testimony sharing is, the greater likelihood for edification and lasting impact.” – Elder David A. Bednar, April 2010 General Conference
- D&C 84:85- “Neither take ye thought beforehand what ye shall say; but treasure up in your minds continually the words of life, and it shall be given you in the very hour that portion that shall be meted unto every man.”
- #HearHim
E- Every member/family will meet with the full-time missionaries
- This will allow every member to be able to feel of the spirit of missionary work and gain revelation for themselves of how to serve in the Lord’s kingdom.
- D&C 58:27: “Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness.”
Goals
- Increase by at least 10, the consistent attendance at Sacrament Meeting, Priesthood and Relief Society Meetings through baptisms and/or reactivation of our brothers and sisters (friends).
- Just because one of your friends does not want to attend church or listen to the missionary discussions does not cancel your friendship.
- Be a part of the Lord’s work in bringing souls unto him by having at least 6 baptisms this year.
